Unit 3, sesión 6

Monday, 14 November 2022

Hello to all of you!

As you have already seen in class, minerals and rocks can be classified into several types, so we will practise it now at home!

To make everything clearer, I propose an activity in which you will have to fill in this diagram with the types of minerals according to their shape, brightness, hardness and colour. You must write an example next to each type. The types of rocks are already written, so you should write an example under each one.

Hello everybody!

As your teacher told you some weeks ago, in this second part of the session (wich takes place during the school timetable), we will go on a trip to an are where mining was very prevalent. This place I am referring to is called Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo and it is located in the province of Córdoba.

To begin with, I will tell you a bit of information about this mining town...

1. Coal mines were predominant in this town. I will tell you how the coal was located, as it is quite interesting. In the year 1777, a man was walking his dog, called "Terrible", on one of his routes from one village to another, and he started to dig. As he was digging, he picked up a dark ground, it was coal!

2. We will visit the Geological-Mining Museum, one of the most important museums in our country. It has a large collection of minerals and fossils.

On today's trip we will visit this museum that I have told you about. We will do a didactic workshop, in which we will be able to touch some pieces that will make us learn more about the recognition of the physical properties of minerals.

In addition, we will have the help of a man who will guide us through the museum and explain a little more about the pieces that make up the museum.

Be very attentive to everything they explain to you, pay attention to the minerals, rocks, fossils and models they show you!

Here you can see some photos!
